        Happiness and Sadness

        Richard Lehr  6 June 2015 19:20:00
Since everything was working well on the brakes. I made my first offroad test drive.

I do not know why I checked the inside of the drums. But it was a good idea. From where is this mud and dirt coming?

To assemble everything, new nuts and bolts (UNC & UNF) and washers were necessary. Found everything at http://www.screwcorner.com/

                  Seat Console

                  Richard Lehr  16 September 2014 17:08:00
Nice construction, but not original. The original part was cut and between the original console and the seat there where U profiles used. The original console does not fit any longer.

After some investigation I found a correct NOS console for the passenger side which is fix while the driver side is adjustable.

Got back from the paint shop the engine hood, brake drums, tail gate and the other steel parts. Good job, MERDC green.

While my Goat came with a dented and rusted tail gate, I found a NOS one with a rubber seal in excellent condition for a reasonable price in the USA.

What is a NOS tail gate missing? Yes, the pioneer tool kit. Ax and pickaxe are now together with the shovel. As new as the tail gate. And I also found the belt and two guards for the head light.

Because of the trouble with the rust and dirt, I was happy to find some NOS brake line which are located in the brake drum and fitted to the wheel brake cylinder.

Received "like new" brake shows today. The new brake pad on the original shoes are glued not riveted. Does not matter, the main thing is the Goat brakes.

While the Goat has some parts made of steel, a decision to preserve these parts had to me made. So the engine hood, the mirror arms, brake shoes and the brake drums came home from sandblasting today. Ready for the paint job ...

                                            What is Original ?

The Gama Goat was private owned in first hand since 1996. Nevertheless there are some parts which are not even original. Looking for a replacement ...

The rear mirrors are Made in England.
                                            Also the wipers and blades.
The top and doors of the tractor are (well made) after market. Same for the carrier.
The front bumber and the shackles are not original, too.

Last but not least a riddle. Was the exhaust system modified? See the unused bracket and empty hole on top of the picture which is used for the exhaust tail pipe. Here the exhaust points to the wheel and shock right now. There were no A1 or A2 series ever for the Gama Goat, but the M561 has differences like
                                            - the exhaust system (funny that the bracket and the whole already exists (see picture below)
                                            - the engine hood (either steel or aluminium)
                                            - the lights on the front fender, either the newer M-series style or the older version
